General Manager & Investment Director
Omar is the General Manager & Investment Director for the Public Sector Social Impact Fund (“PSSIF”) – which is a UK focused, ESG, Private Debt Fund and a Joint Venture between Altana Wealth and Warrington Borough Council. PSSIF is a Public-Private Sector Partnership, having specifically been formed to enable UK Local Authorities and Pension Funds to effectively and efficiently deploy investments within the UK with a view to earning social and environmental returns, on top of a financial return.
Omar forged his career in the private sector, and then transitioned to the public sector, motivated by the need of UK local authorities and pension funds for in-house private markets investment specialists. He has over 18 years of experience in the sector, encompassing direct private equity, direct private debt, private markets investment funds, real estate investments, as well as, the creation, launch and management of private investment funds spanning a wide range of asset classes using different financial instruments.
Prior to Altana he was the Head of Private Equity/Investment Director and Member of the Investment Committee at LGPS Central Ltd, the specialist asset management arm of nine Midlands-based local government authority pension schemes, responsible for investing and managing the pooled assets whilst ensuring underlying investments met high ESG standards. At LGPS Central Ltd Omar and his team structured, fund raised and launched the first vintage LGPS Central Ltd PE Fund in just under 6 months, and successfully invested circa 87% of the Fund in a record nine months from launch.
He started his career at a Bank of America Structured Finance Affiliate Co. in London where he was part of the team that launched the first ever Shariah compliant Aircraft Fund, and most recently was a Member of the Board of Directors and a Senior Investment Manager with Special Situations Investment Partners, the private investments arm of a charitable trust.
